Flax Seed Diet
Consuming fatty seeds while on a diet? Shouldn’t I steer away from fat and grains and stick to chicken and green salad if I want to lose weight? These are two common questions from people who hear about flax seed diet for the first time. The truth is the flax seeds are great when you are on a diet.

A flax seed diet will contain plenty of fibers. Fibers make you feel full and this reduces the risk of stuffing yourself with chocolate chip cookies when you have followed a diet for a few days. Fibers have also been showed to decrease the risk of a long series of health problem, including gastro-intestinal cancer. Quite a bonus, don’t you think?

One of the reasons why many people have a hard time sticking to a diet is because they are too harsh on them selves and deny their body fat altogether. The human body needs a certain amount of fat each day to function, and when you cut out all possible sources of fat from your diet your body will think that starvation is at hand. Your brain will eventually tell you to go out and find some fat – by all means necessary! This is when most of us head for candy bar section in our local supermarket. If you instead provide your body with small amounts of healthy fatty acids each day, the brain will have no reason to send you out on these “fat-hunts”. This is why a flax seed diet is superior to diets that cut out all possible sources of fat.

Yes, it is true that a flax seed diet will contain quite a lot of fat, but it is a very good type of fat. It is also rather difficult to ingest too much fat when you do it in the form of flax seeds; most people feel really full long before they have ingested unhealthy amounts of fat from flax seed. Flax seed contains high amounts of omega-3 Alpha-Linolenic acid (ALA). Keeping a healthy balance between omega-3 fatty acids and omega-6 fatty acids is very important, but our modern westernized diet tend to give us too much omega-6 and too little omega-3. A flax seed diet will provide you with a much more balanced intake of fatty acids.

If the reason for your diet is to lower dangerous cholesterol levels, than a flax seed diet is definitely a good choice for you several studies have indicated how flax seeds are able to lower the cholesterol levels in humans.
