Golden Flax Seed
Golden flax seed has a yellow golden colour that makes it very appealing in situations where look matters, such as when preparing meals and drinks for human consumption. A majority of the flax seeds grown throughout the world are brown in colour, and the golden flax is a hybridised form of this brown Common flax (Linum usitatissimum). The Golden flax seeds are grown primarily as a food crop and for the dietary supplement market. Brown flax seeds are also extensively utilized for food and dietary supplements, but they are also used to produce linseed oil for painters, varnish for wood treatments, animal food and much more. The Common flax plant is also grown for its fibres and used to produce fabrics, ropes and high-quality papers.
Both brown flax seeds and golden flax seeds are appreciated for their high content of beneficial fatty acids. They are also a rich source of dietary fibre and can therefore relive stomach problems, e.g. constipations. The nutritional value of golden flax seeds is very similar to that of the common brown flax seeds and the main difference between them, as far as science know, are simply their coloration. Golden flax seed have also been claimed to have a more nutty-buttery taste. When comparing taste and nutritional value between golden flax seed and brown flax seed it is important to use seeds of similar quality, and choose seeds that have been grown and stored with human consumption in mind.
The golden flax seed can be used in a wide range of different meals, breads and drinks. They can be used as a decorative addition as well as being mixed into a pale smoothie without forming dark spots.
