Flax Seed Grinder
Flax seed grinder: coffee grinders
Ordinary coffee grinders are often great for grounding limited amounts of flax seed. Get a small, blade type of coffee grinder and use it to grind up 4-5 tablespoons of flax seed at a time.
Flax seed grinder: impact grinders
If you want a grinder especially made for grinding seeds, you can for instance get an impact grinder. Impact grinders are electrical and therefore great for those who need to grind a lot of flax seeds or have limited hand strength. Impact flax seed grinders are usually very fast and efficient and contain several rows of sharp blades that turn inside each other. Make sure that you get a grinder that is intended for flax seed use; some impact grinders cannot handle certain kinds of grains and beans. Other flax seed grinders will clog up unless you add a lot of dry grains.
Flax seed grinder: burr grinders
Another type of grinder intended for grain grinding is the burr grinder. This type of flax seed grinder contains metal wheels with protruding burrs. Burr grinders are usually great for all sorts of grains and beans and can therefore be used not only for flax seeds. You can choose between electric flax seed grinders and manual ones.
Flax seed grinder: stone grinders
A flax seed grinder using stones can gum up quickly unless you mix your flax seeds with plenty of dry grain, such as wheat. This has to do with the high level of flax seed oil present in flax seeds. Stone grinders normally consist of two porous stones shaped like donuts. When you use your flax seed grinder, the inner stone will stay still while the outer stone spins. Keep in mind that flax seed oil can pour in between the stones; frequent cleanings are therefore recommended. Stone grinders can be electrical or manual. |
