Flax Seed Side Effects
Flax seed side effects # 1
Flax seeds are very rich in fibres and this of course a highly desirable thing. If you are used to a diet low in fibres and suddenly starts eating large amounts of flax seeds, you may however notice a few flax seed side effects. Increased gas, loose stools and mild stomach aches can for instance occur as a result of you new fibre rich diet. These side effects are not specifically linked to flax seed; anyone who jumps directly from a low-fibre diet to a high-fibre diet is at risk of developing these symptoms, regardless of whether the fibres come from flax seeds, whole grains or large amounts of broccoli. Increased gas, loose stools and mild stomach ache are not dangerous, but it can be unpleasant and it is therefore a good idea to give your stomach some time to adjust itself to your new fibre rich diet. Start out by eating only smaller amounts of flax seed each day and then gradually increase the dose. This way, you can go from a low-fibre diet to a healthy high-fibre diet without experiencing this type of unpleasant flax seed side effects. Once you have accommodated your intestines to high-fibre food, it is advisable to keep including plenty of fibres in your daily diet. If you eat low-fibre junk food three weeks a month and then embark on fanatical high-fibre diets during the fourth one, you will chock your body over and over again.
Flax seed side effects # 2
Some individuals experience severe side effects from ingesting flax seed, such as severe stomach pain, failure to have a bowel movement, persistent diarrhoea, severe bloating and/or severe nausea. If your experience one or several of these flax seed side effects, promptly contact your doctor and stop taking flax seeds.
Flax seed side effects # 3
If you know that you have some type of bowel obstruction, you should never do any drastic changes in your diet without first discussing them with your doctor. People with bowel obstruction are advised to discus flax seed, flax seed oil and possible flax seed side effects with their doctor. Some people with bowel obstruction react very well to flax seeds, but should stay away from flax seed oil. Others can use flax seed oil to obtain healthy fatty acids, but must refrain from eating flax seeds since the hulls are too high in indigestible fibres. A third group can only eat well grounded flax seeds. As you can see, it is impossible to give any general guidelines; only your doctor can know what is right for you.
Flax seed side effects # 4
Flax seed allergies are very uncommon, but they do exist. Highly sensitive individuals can even develop difficulty breathing, a reaction similar to that exhibited by those who are allergic to peanuts. Flax seed allergies are therefore not a thing to be taken lightly. Seek professional medical attention if you develop any allergic reactions to flax seeds. A person with breathing difficulties naturally needs immediate medical attention.
